Commander Matt Timney

Commander Matthew Timney began his law enforcement career with the Cypress Police Department as a Police Officer – Trainee in June 1995 and advanced to Police Officer upon his graduation from the Golden West Police Academy in December 1995.  Commander Timney promoted to the rank of Sergeant in October 2003 and to the rank of Commander in December 2018.  Commander Timney has obtained his Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Supervisory P.O.S.T. certificates and has served as a member of the Cypress Police Officers’ Association Board and as the agency’s liaison to the Cypress Police Foundation.  He graduated from California State University, Long Beach where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology.

Commander Timney has extensive experience in all aspects of police work having served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Canine Handler, SWAT Team Member, Detective and subsequent Criminal Investigations Bureau Supervisor, Investigator and ensuing Special Enforcement Team Supervisor, Chief’s Adjutant, and Watch Commander.  Matt is also a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute – Class 302. 

Commander Timney is currently assigned as the Operations Division Commander where he supervises patrol, traffic, and jail operations.
