Candidate Selection: The Cypress City Council will review applications and select candidates to be interviewed during the regular Council Meeting on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. 

Candidate Interviews: The Cypress City Council will interview selected qualified candidates on Wednesday, November 19 at a time to be determined. Each interview will be scheduled for up to 20 minutes.

Former Council Member Scott Minikus resigned from the City Council effective October 1, 2025.

Applicants must be 18 years of age, a legally registered voter and resident of Cypress.

No. Mr. Minikus was elected to the City Council in November 2022 as an at-large candidate and thus this vacancy may be filled by an individual residing anywhere within the boundaries of Cypress.

The individual selected to fill the vacancy will serve the balance of Mr. Minikus’s term – until November 2026.

No. The City of Cypress does not charge a fee to file your application.

a.    Each applicant will need to present to the City Clerk a valid U.S. drivers license or U.S. government issued ID card to validate residency and voter status.

Appointees are required to complete regular trainings upon appointment. After completion of each training, the official obtains a certificate or proof of completion, and certificate must be submitted to the City’s Clerk.

Interviews will be held during a City Council meeting. Applicants will have 20 minutes to interview with the City Council. 

On November 10, 2025, the City Council is expected to select those who will be invited to participate in public interviews. Interviews are expected to be held on November 19, 2025.

Yes. There are a variety of interagency regional governance assignments for which City Councilmembers are eligible by way of annual Cypress City Council designation.
