Captain Scott Ausmus began his law enforcement journey with the Cypress Police Department in August 2004 as a Police Officer-Trainee, advancing to Police Officer after graduating from the Golden West College Criminal Justice Training Center in February 2005. Over the years, he has steadily risen through the ranks, becoming Lead Police Officer in 2013, Sergeant in 2014, and Lieutenant in 2020. Captain Ausmus has earned his Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, and Management P.O.S.T. certificates, and is a past President of the Cypress Police Officers’ Association. He also serves as an instructor at the Golden West College Criminal Justice Training Center. A proud graduate of Chapman University, Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, graduating Cum Laude.
With a wealth of experience across many areas of police work, Captain Ausmus has served in roles such as Detective, Field Training Officer, Watch Commander, Personnel & Training, and Special Investigations Unit Supervisor. He has also been part of the Directed Enforcement Team, Honor Guard Detail, and West County S.W.A.T., and was named the 2012 Officer of the Year for his outstanding service.
Now serving as the Support Services Division Commander, Captain Ausmus oversees the Criminal Investigations Bureau, Records, Personnel & Training, the Special Investigations Unit, Emergency Management, and Community Outreach, continuing his commitment to the safety and well-being of the Cypress community.
