The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District (OCMVCD) has confirmed mosquito samples infected with West Nile virus (WNv) in Cypress.
OCMVCD inspectors will be working in the area to check known mosquito breeding sources and identify any new ones. Advisory posters will be placed in the affected neighborhood, and if positive mosquito samples continue, adult mosquito control may be conducted in the future.
How You Can Protect Yourself
Residents, park visitors, sports leagues, and outdoor event attendees are encouraged to take the following precautions:
-
Use mosquito repellent when spending time outdoors, especially at dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.
-
Eliminate standing water around your home (buckets, plant saucers, birdbaths, clogged gutters, etc.), which are common breeding sites.
-
Ensure window and door screens are in good repair to keep mosquitoes from entering your home.
