Mark Lauderback named Chief of Police

SUBJECT:  Cypress’ Next Police Chief

Cypress City Manager Peter Grant has named Mark Lauderback to fill the top leadership role at the Cypress Police Department.

Lauderback is currently Police Chief for the City of Westminster and began his career there in 1994. He has served in various roles, including Patrol, Motor Officer, Detectives, and SWAT. Chief Lauderback possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Management as well as a degree in Criminal Justice. He is a graduate of the P.O.S.T. Executive Development Course and a P.O.S.T. certified instructor at the Golden West College Police Academy.

Chief Lauderback was selected through a competitive, nationwide search with input from community leaders, law enforcement officers, and city management professionals, as well as one-on-one interviews with City Manager Grant. Chief Lauderback stood out as a dedicated and enthusiastic law enforcement leader with 27 years of progressively responsible experience.

Announcing the appointment, City Manager Grant commended Lauderback. “Chief Lauderback brings exceptional expertise to Cypress and will be a strong addition to an already stellar police department,” Grant said. “He is well regarded throughout Orange County and will advance the positive relationships Cypress PD has established with our community. I look forward to the great work Chief Lauderback and our department will do.”

Lauderback is a long time Cypress resident. His children are graduates of Cypress High School and currently attend Cypress College. Chief Lauderback looks forward to serving the community and continuing to make Cypress a safer city for all.
