Commander Jim Olson began his career with the Cypress Police Department in 1994 as a Police Officer. In 1998, he advanced to the position of Police Corporal and was promoted to Police Sergeant in 1999. In 2010, he was promoted to Police Lieutenant, and has been working as an Police Commander since August 2015. Prior to being hired by the Cypress Police Department, Commander Olson was employed as a Deputy Sheriff with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Commander Olson has attained his Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, and Management P.O.S.T. certificates. He holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach, and a master’s degree from University of California, Irvine. He was awarded Cypress Police Officers’ Association’s 1998 Officer of the Year.

Jim is an adjunct faculty member for the Golden West College Criminal Justice Training Center, where he serves as the physical fitness training manager in addition to instructing at the basic S.W.A.T. Academy. He is one of three commanders on the West County S.W.A.T. team.
