The City Cypress requires all commercial and residential businesses operating within the City to obtain and maintain a Cypress business license.  A business license application must be submitted within 30 days of the first date of conducting business.  If you will be operating a home-based business, please review the Home Occupation Permit Criteria.

The business license requirement enables the City to maintain a database of businesses that operate within the City that is used for police emergency responses, sales tax purposes, and demographic studies.

A business license representative can be reached at (714) 229-6712 Monday through Friday from 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.

BUSINESS LICENSE APPLICATION

Businesses located within Cypress must apply for new licenses in person at City Hall.  Additional documents may be required, including a Fictitious Business Name statement and/or a Seller’s Permit.

Businesses operating within Cypress that are located outside of the City may apply in person at City Hall or by mailing the application to:

PLEASE NOTE: Governor Brown signed SB-1186 into law on September 19, 2012, which adds a state fee of $1 to any application for a local business license or similar instrument or permit, or renewal thereof. The purpose is to increase disability access and compliance with construction-related accessibility requirements and to develop educational resources for businesses in order to facilitate compliance with federal and state disability laws, as specified.

“Under federal and state law, compliance with disability access laws is a serious and significant responsibility that applies to all California building owners and tenants with buildings open to the public. You may obtain information about your legal obligations and how to comply with disability access laws at the following agencies:
The Division of the State Architect at www.dgs.ca.gov/dsa/Home.aspx
The Department of Rehabilitation at www.rehab.cahwnet.gov
The California Commission on Disability Access at www.ccda.ca.gov.”
