Mayor Paulo Morales Delivers the 2017 State of the City Address

Mayor Paulo Morales delivered his State of the City Address and presented Business of the Year awards at the Cypress Community Center on Wednesday, January 18.  A video of the Mayor's State of the City Address can be found here.

Mayor Morales' address emphasized the importance of communication and explained that good communication is necessary for the Cypress community to thrive.  He highlighted efforts the City has made over the past year to improve its communication efforts with its residents and businesses.  He also recounted accomplishments of the City Council's strategic plan and shared some of the accomplishments of Cypress' school community.

Three businesses were honored by Mayor Morales during the event with the annual BRACE, AGENT, and SPIRIT Business of the Year Awards.  Additionally, the Mayor awarded a special recognition to Cypress College in honor of their 50th Anniversary.

The recipient of the BRACE Business of the Year Award was Tayco Engineering.  Tayco founder, Mr. Charles Taylor, and current President and CEO, Dr. Jay Chung, were in attendance to receive the award.  Tayco Engineering has called Cypress home since 1990.  They are an industry leader in research, development and manufacturing of electrical heaters and temperature sensors for aerospace application.  Tayco has participated in most of the major space programs, every single manned spacecraft and deep space probe, space shuttles, Space Station Freedom, and a majority of orbiting satellites.

The AGENT Business of the Year Award was awarded to Cypress Village Partners.  Mr. Sean Colleran was in attendance to receive the award.  Cypress Village Partners are the owner of Cypress Village Shopping Center, located near the intersection of Valley View Street and Orange Avenue.  In 2016, the center underwent an extensive renovation valued at over $1 million dollars.  The renovation has revitalized the center and brought new dining establishments to Cypress including 85 Degrees Celsius Bakery & Cafe, Pieology, Waba Grill and Burger Boss.

The receipient of the SPIRIT Business of the Year Award was El Zarape restaurant.  Mr. Salvador Martin Sr. was in attendance to accept the award.  El Zarape is a family-owned authentic Mexican restaurant that has been providing Cypress with delicious food and friendly service for more than 26 years.

Mayor Morales concluded the event by thanking City employees for their dedicated service to the residents and businesses of Cypress.  He also expressed his commitment to effective communication that will enable the community to continue to flourish under his leadership.
