Paulo Morales Appointed New Mayor of Cypress
At its December 12 meeting, the City Council reorganized and selected Paulo Morales as Mayor and Jon Peat as Mayor Pro Tem for 2017. Outgoing Mayor Mariellen Yarc was recognized and presented with a plaque in honor of her term as Mayor in 2016.
Paulo Morales was elected to in 2014 and is currently serving his first term on the City Council. Mayor Morales is a retired Cypress Police Officer and has represented the City as an alternate for the West Cities Police Communications Center (West Comm) Executive Board, the Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency, and the Joint Forces Training Base Cities Group.
Jon Peat was elected in 2014 and is currently serving his first term on the City Council. Mayor Pro Tem Peat holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration-Finance from California State University Fullerton and a Masters of Business Administration from California State University Long Beach. He recently retired after a 30 year career with Raytheon Company. Mayor Pro Tem Peat has represented the City as a member of Joint Ad Hoc Committees with Cypress College, Anaheim Union High School District, and Cypress School District. He serves as the City's representative to the Executive Board of the West Cities Police Communications Center (West Comm) and a member of the Veteran Recognition Subcommittee. Mayor Pro Tem Peat, his wife Bonnie, and their son Michael have resided in Cypress since 1997.
