Cypress Mayor Jon Peat delivered his State of the City Address and presented Business of the Year awards at the Cypress Community Center on Wednesday, January 17. A video of the Mayor’s State of the City Address can be found at https://youtu.be/gaSNhN5VFko.
Mayor Peat’s address recounted many of the City’s accomplishments in 2017, including the grand opening of Mackay Park, completion of the Myra Avenue flood control projects, and the return of the Cypress Farmers Market. Mayor Peat also highlighted Cypress’ strong local economy including its thriving commercial sector, strengthening retail sector, and new housing opportunities. Mayor Peat concluded by sharing upcoming events and anticipated projects that will begin in 2018.
Three businesses were honored during the event with the Annual BRACE, AGENT, and SPIRIT Business of the Year Awards. The recipient of the BRACE Business of the Year Award was Siemens. Siemens is a global technology powerhouse that has stood for engineering excellence, innovation, quality, reliability and integrity for more than 165 years. While Siemens has been a member of the Cypress business community for some time, it recently celebrated the grand opening of its new office in 2017. Siemens is one of the largest employers in Cypress, making it an integral partner in the local economy.
The AGENT Business of the Year Award was awarded to The Boardwalk by The Festival Companies. The Boardwalk is a new retail renovation project located on Katella Avenue at the site of the former OfficeMax. The Festival Companies revitalized a vacant building into a thriving center with seven new restaurants. The Boardwalk was a highly anticipated development whose tenants serve the high demand for dining options in the business park area.
The recipient of the SPIRIT Business of the Year Award was Dominic’s Ristorante Italiano. Dominic’s is a family-owned Italian restaurant with a focus on customer service, quality food and fair prices. Established in 1991, Dominic’s has been serving Cypress and the surrounding area for over 26 years. Dominic’s has become so successful that it recently completed an expansion and renovation project to accommodate growing customer demand.
Mayor Peat concluded the event by honoring three local businesses for their support following the tragic loss of Cypress Police Officer Matt Ward in October 2017. The Mayor presented a plaque as a token of appreciation to Forest Lawn, Joe Schmoe’s, and the Original Fish Company for their generous contributions to the family of Officer Ward.
